The food pantries are a ministry of C.R.O.S. Urban Ministries, made possible by the donations of local churches, synagogues, and civic groups. The food pantries provide for those who have suddenly fallen on hard times such as unemployment, sickness or a death in the family. Through the food pantries, families in crisis can receive a three-day supply of food. However, as C.R.O.S continues to penetrate these communities, the numbers of those in need continue to increase. In 1999 C.R.O.S. provided 129,735 emergency meals to 14,415 individuals.
Who is helped?
Each year thousands of individuals receive emergency food from the food pantries located in West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Lake Worth, Delray Beach, and Boca Raton. Food is given on a one-time basis to temporarily meet an emergency need.
How does someone get help?
Individuals needing help require written referrals from aChildren and Family Services caseworker, a social agency, or a church or synagogue. Once a personís need has been verified, write on an agency letterhead: his/her name, address, number of people in the family, and a one sentence description of the situation indicating why food is needed. Include the signature and phone number of the person making the referral. Before you send the person to the appropriate food pantry, encourage him/her to apply for food stamps if eligible.
How can I support the food pantry ministry?
Your group can support the ministry by holding a food drive, through gifts of money, or by volunteering to work at one or more of the pantry locations. Call (561) 833-9499 for more information.
